About Nothing to Worry About

A coworker freezes his camera during meetings, then his eyes begin to follow the speaker. A delivery notification becomes something far more personal. Neighbors, landlords, and officials offer explanations that grow less reassuring the longer you listen.

Nothing to Worry About collects 73 stories of black comedy, psychological horror, and noir. They move through American workplaces, Montana forests, ancient battlefields, haunted civilizations, and futures shaped by compromised technology. Unreliable narrators and courteous monsters keep making the unreasonable sound routine. A Meat Worm Chronicles story brings the biological incidents into this wider investigation.

A small piece of evidence

I Began Keeping My Camera Frozen on Purpose

I started freezing my camera during meetings because the connection was bad.

At least, that’s what I told them.

I found a frame where I looked attentive. Chin slightly lowered. Mouth neutral. Eyes aimed just beneath the camera, like I was studying whoever happened to be speaking.

Then I stopped moving.

At first nobody noticed.

People are remarkably willing to accept a frozen coworker. It’s one of the small miracles of remote employment.

Someone would ask, “You still with us?”

I’d wait four seconds.

“Yep.”

My picture never changed.
